Tonight’s fun family dinner theme is Movie Night!
Whether you consider doing these fun family dinners once a week, once a month, or every so often, I hope they give you and your family something to look forward to and help you make mealtime more fun and conversational. Ultimately, I hope they help you and your family connect and learn from & about each other!
Today, use your time at the table to talk with each other about your favorite movie(s) and what you can learn from them. I used popular movies (that are popular across generational lines, too!) as the central theme of Movie Night (Star Wars, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games), but as with any of these themes I offer to you, go right on ahead and change things up if you and your family have other movies to talk about! You can download this theme’s Table Talk and Recipe guide here.
I had fun coming up with the names and ideas for the food for this theme!
Main Meal:
Seven Leia (Layer) Pasta Casserole (Star Wars)
- Forgive me for my play on words here. It was too good, and entirely too cheesy (in more than one way!) not to use.
Prim Pockets (The Hunger Games)
- In the first movie of the series, Prim gives Katniss a gift of goat cheese wrapped in basil leaves. I did a little bit of spin on that with Prim Pockets – crescent rolls wrapped around spinach leaves, basil, and feta cheese. Though, if you want to use goat cheese, by all means, go for it!
Dessert:
Cinna-mon Cookies & Butterbeer Sauce (The Hunger Games & Harry Potter)
- Again, play on words here, but the Cinna-mon cookies (Snickerdoodles) are SO good, and they go perfectly with caramel sauce. When I was searching around for food ideas for Harry Potter, I kept coming across Butterbeer, and I found that most people were associating anything “Butterbeer” with caramel, so here we go – perfect excuse to pair up one of my favorite dessert combos!
There’s so much to talk about with movies, but I thought especially with these three movies, there’s a lot of substance to chat about since they all speak to forms of leadership, the battle between good and evil, making tough decisions, friendships, etc.
You know, some of the big deals in life.
But you can also just talk about how cool the movie effects are, too.
Remember, these Fun Family Dinners are all about just putting a spin on regular mealtime and giving everyone something to think about, talk about, and just have fun together ’round the table.
Have fun! May the force be with you as you prepare the meal. May the odds be ever in your favor as you wrangle everyone to get to the table. And, may your conversation be full of magic.
In all seriousness, I hope you and your family enjoy!
