There are three great reasons to make this banner for your next celebration!
- It’s super fun.
- It’s super easy.
- It’s super cheap to make.
Here’s what you need:
- Tissue paper of various colors (one sheet of tissue paper will make 4 little fringe semicircles)
- Double-sided tape
- A string (the length of the area where you want to hang your banner) with two loops tied on either end for hanging the banner up with pushpins
- A bowl (or something round) about 8-9″ in diameter
Let’s get started!
Note: You want to make sure you trace the bowl so that the flat end of the semicircle is the end that has the folds/creases, not the open ends of the tissue paper.
Note: When you begin cutting the fringe, remember that you’re cutting 4 of these circles/semicircles at the same time, so you want to make sure they all line up with each other as you continue to cut the fringe.
Another note: Don’t cut the slits for the fringe too close to the fold at the top. You’ll want to leave about 1/2 inch between the tip of the slit and the fold.
Repeat that process with the remaining colors of tissue paper. Alternate colors on the banner as you wish!
Look how cute!
Note: If you’re hanging this banner outside, you may want to use more tape on the inside to ensure that the two circle halves stay folded and stuck together over the string! If it’s pretty breezy and they’re not very well secured, they’ll blow off of the string pretty easily.
Also, if you’re planning to make this banner to bring somewhere, you may want to consider doing steps 1-11 at home and then assembling the fringe semicircles onto the string once you arrive at your event location. I don’t think a pre-made banner will travel very well – it’ll be difficult to fold up and take with you without messing up the fragile tissue paper.
I learn from experience.
Have fun making this for your next celebratory event!
