I’m a sucker for family photos. I know, that’s probably a bit surprising, but just try to take it all in.
When Aaron and I got married and I began to decorate our first little apartment together, I had this idea of putting our initials on the wall, hanging pictures of us with our parents and grandparents under our initials, and then putting our wedding photo underneath the ampersand.
Here’s a throwback picture from our family photo wall in our first apartment in College Station:
So many memories in that apartment. I loved every square inch of that 1960s dwelling – peeling wallpaper and all. Monday Night Potlucks had an awesome run in that place. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
And yes, our initials are A&M. We are super excited about that.
Aggies have issues. Issues we’re quite proud of.
Even if you and your spouse don’t have quite as awesome of a pairing of initials, you can absolutely do this same wall collage in your own home!
Here’s the idea behind this – my thought was, how cool would it be to display, in some kind of wall collage, a snapshot of where we came from as a married couple? Aaron (obviously) descended from his parents and grandparents, I (obviously) descended from my parents and grandparents, and then we marry each other to eventually create our own descendants. This family photo wall is, in image form, a family tree! Cool, huh?!

Our side!
Now that we have a kiddo, I consider changing out our wedding photo for a large family photo of us with our kiddo, or perhaps even create a little mini collage of us with our kiddo under the ampersand. I haven’t gotten there yet (and I also really love this wedding photo!), but if you’re considering doing this on a wall in your home, that’s an option you can consider!
Aaaaand this is what this area of the house usually looks like. It doubles as Elizabeth’s play area. #RealLife
I love our little photo wall – the nostalgia of it, but also just the reminder that we all come from a bigger family – a bigger picture that we’re all a part of. We’re all who we are because of influences in our families, and I want to make sure to pass down a lot of those influences we were raised with! None of us are perfect, but we all have something to offer to our families; we all have an influence that we can pass on! These photos remind me of that every day, and I hope the photos in your home do the same thing!

Ugh, the CS apt is still my favorite. So many conversations and football/Earth-watching/game playing times…and the fact that it was ten minutes away from me.
